Prepare for Migration

Before migrating your DaVinci Configurator Classic Version 5 projects to DaVinci Configurator Classic Version 6, we recommend performing some preparation steps in your existing project. These steps are not mandatory, but they help minimize the risk of encountering issues during the migration process.

The preparation steps listed below are designed to address potential blockers and ensure a smoother migration experience. If your project is already well-maintained and free of model inconsistencies, you may skip these steps. However, taking a few minutes to perform the checks outlined below is strongly recommended.

DaVinci Assistant includes an AI Skill that automates and guides you through these preparation steps. For more information see DaVinci Assistant.

Update the RTE in DaVinci Configurator Classic Version 5

Since the new BSW package is already available, you can use the RTE and related components from the new BSW package to update your existing project.

Replace the following folders from the old BSW package with their counterparts from the new BSW package:

  • RTE (required)

  • RteAnalyzer (required)

  • ComXf (if present in your BSW)

  • DiagXf (if present in your BSW)

  • E2EXf (if present in your BSW)

  • SomeIpXf (if present in your BSW)

If your BSW does not contain one of the optional components listed above, you can safely skip it.

After updating the RTE components, verify that the RTE module can be generated successfully.

Clean Up the DaVinci Developer Workspace

Ensure that your DaVinci Developer Classic workspace does not contain redundant or obsolete elements before migration.

  1. Open your DaVinci Developer Classic workspace

  2. Execute the "Check Workspace" function to identify errors and inconsistencies

  3. For each error that appears:

    • Look for automated resolution options

    • Execute simple, automated actions such as "Remove Mapping" or "Remove Reference"

You do not need to resolve every error message in the workspace. Focus only on errors that offer available automated solutions. Errors without quick fixes can usually be addressed after migration.

Ensure All Modules Are Generatable

Verify that all modules in your project can be generated successfully, especially the RTE module.

  1. Attempt to generate each module in your DaVinci Configurator Classic Version 5 project

  2. If generation fails, review the error messages and address any configuration issues

  3. Ensure the RTE module generates without errors

If modules fail to generate, consult the error logs and resolve the underlying issues before proceeding with the migration. This ensures that your migration process starts from a stable and known state.
